Man Commits Suicide After Losing New Born Baby

A traffic warden allegedly committed suicide in the early hours of yesterday in Port Harcourt. The late Victor Memawaji was attached to the Borokiri Division of the Police command. Sources around the deceased said he was about twenty eight years old. Nobody could place a finger on what could have informed his action but Vanguard gathered that he lost his new born baby about two weeks ago and had remained sad since the sad incident before he allegedly took his life yesterday. Neighbors told the Vanguard that the late Memawaji tied a rope from the ceiling fan in his room to his neck. Before people around could notice what was happening he was already dead. The wife, Mrs Memawaji told newsmen that she could not understand why her late husband chose to end his life the way he did, adding that they lived happily until his death. “We took our bath together after he returned home from afternoon shift at about 9:00pm. My brother-in-law visited and after he left, we had our night meal. When we were about to sleep, my husband said he would visit his brother, who has just left, at his own house, and after he would go to church service. “I do not attend the same church with my husband, and I suggested that I would pass the night in my friend’s place. We recently lost our new born baby and first child . Staying alone in the house brings back memories of my late baby,” The wife said the late husband later saw her off to her friend’s place where she passed the night. “We have lived happily. We never had any quarrel that would have led him to commit suicide. He did not drop any note for me. When I came back in the morning, the door was locked. We broke the house and found him hanging on the fan.”
