Journalists escape snake attack at House Of Reps Members House

Judiciary correspondents in Umuahia, Abia State capital, narrowly escaped snake attack after a meeting with a member of the state House of Assembly at his private residence. The lawmaker, Hon. Ikedi Ezekwesiri, representing Umunneochi constituency, had invited the judiciary correspondents for a friendly parley at his house located in Isieke area of Umuahia. The lawmaker has recently been in the news over a court case in which he was accused for perjury and presentation of forged university degree certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2011 General Election. A journalist, who attended the meeting, told his colleagues in Umuahia that the visit almost turned tragic as the snake suddenly appeared to attack them at about 8.30pm on their way out of the lawmaker’s residence. He said: “It was a rude shock when one of us, who first left the lawmaker’s house, screamed and we rushed out to see a big snake well positioned at the middle of the road.” According to him, the snake dashed to a nearby bush as some natives attempted to pelt it with stones. The journalist, who did not want his name mentioned, quoted some natives as saying that the snake suspected had been seen by some other persons in the past. The journalist said: “We immediately thanked God for His protection as none of us was attacked by the snake. CAN: Prophet Mohammed Never Fought Christians, He Gave Them His Mosque To Worship In

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State yesterday condemned comments credited to Islamic scholar Dr. Ahmad Gumi, that the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oristejafor and other Christian leaders live flamboyant lives. The Kaduna State Secretary of CAN, Rev. Sunday Ibrahim, who addressed a press conference yesterday, said for Gumi to make Christianity as an object of Ramadan preaching and castigating the leaders for alleged corruption, is unacceptable. Reacting to Gumi’s Ramadan lecture aired on state-owned Capital Television, state secretary of CAN Reverend Sunday Ibrahim said at a news conference that Gumi made derogatory comments on Christians. “Sheikh Gumi, during his Tafsir, said that Christians claim that Jesus is a son of God and that he is God and saviour, and that it is a wrong conception. This to us is a degrading comment on our saviour, Jesus Christ,” Ibrahim (of CAN) said. According to the CAN scribe in the state, “he (Gumi) went further to say that the more archbishops, bishops, pastors and general overseers, the more iniquities in the society and he also went further to make some degrading comments on the personality of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”. On the pictures of the jet and limousine car, which were said to belong to Oristejafor and his wife, and also the objects of Gumi’s teachings, Rev. Ibrahim queried: “How is that Gumi’s concern?” Ibrahim added that “Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) never fought any Christian. In fact the prophet invited the Nazran Christians for a visit in Yathrib (Medina). And when it was time for their prayers, he offered them his Mosque. School Guard Rapes Student In Classroom

The suspect, Emeka Nwabunwane who raped girl in classroom A civil engineering graduate from Delta State University, Abraka in Delta State, southsouth Nigeria, who lost his job and was newly employed as a security guard in a private school at Ijegun area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a student of the school inside the school premises. It was alleged that the 30-year old security guard, Emeka Nwabunwane, lured the 18-year old student (name withheld) to a classroom in the school and raped her when she went to the school to attend a tutorial class in preparation for her Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board, JAMB, examination. The girl told P.M.NEWS how she was raped by the Delta-State born suspect; an incident which she claimed has affected her physical and mental well-being. She said when she entered the school premises on the day of the incident, Nwabunwane called her and she went to meet him in the classroom because she knew him as one of the security guards in the school and thought he wanted to discuss an issue with her. She alleged that immediately she entered the classroom, he locked the door and pulled off his trousers and started to beat her into submission. She said when she tried to resist him, he tore her pants, threw her on the floor and started to rape her. She said in the process, the suspect tore her private part and she started bleeding profusely. The victim said she raised an alarm inside the classroom, but nobody came to rescue her. The girl said it was after he had raped her and she ran outside naked and started scraeming for help that the residents of the area came to her rescue. The girl said by then she was bleeding profusely and when some of the residents saw the blood, they immediately caught Nwabunwane and handed him over to the police at Isheri Oshun Division. The victim said she was still in shock and always gets frightened whenever she remembers how she was raped by the suspect. She said since the incident happened, she has been having severe pains in her private part and going to hospital for treatment. Nwabnwane admitted that he took the girl to the classroom and attempted to have sex with her but stopped when he discovered that she was menstruating. The suspect claimed that it was when he left the girl that she ran out and started shouting for help and claiming that he raped her. The security guard who was reportedly working in a private company before he was sacked and got the security job at the school, explained that when the incident happened, he made several attempts to settle the matter with the family of the victim. The suspect said before they could finalise the settlement, he was brought to court. He said he has learnt his lesson and was praying that the matter will be settled amicably. When the suspect was arraigned in court, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Mr Adeleye Adeleke, objected to his bail on the ground that the offence he committed was a serious offence that attracts life imprisonment. He therefore argued that the suspect may likely jump bail to escape justice. However, the presiding Magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka granted the suspect bail in the sum of N150,000 with three sureties in like sum. The court also ordered that the sureties must have evidence of tax payment for three years. The matter was adjourned till 21 October while the suspect was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions.

I Did Not Send my Mother-in-Law Packing – Joseph Yobo

The Super Eagles captain has responded to the allegations in an interview with Maestro Media He said; ”There’s is no iota of truth in the report that has gained grounds of recent, there was no encounter of the such that was described to have happened between my mother-in-law and I”. We as a family are in the best of place in our lives currently. Someone from some place, just sat down and decided to construct a lie: a total fabrication from their own imagination. He went on further ”I love my wife and I love her very much, nothing anyone does can bring any division between us and between our families. The Yobos & the Fashanus have a great relationship, a fantastic one at that and very good mutual respect for each other, and we thank God for that. There was never a time that I sent my Mother-in-Law packing from my home for being a bad influence on her own daughter, who is my wife. How can people just come up with stories about what never happened. We have no problems at all. We have 2 great houses next to each other in Istanbul, Turkey that is big enough to accommodate our families, without anyone invading on anyone’s privacy. They are just trying to destroy the 2 families. When we first came across the stories, we thought okay it was just one of those silly little gossips and that it would soon fade away and be forgotten. Only for us to read it and found out it was very well orchestrated pack of lies, from the beginning to the end of it: they didn’t even know where I am from and claimed I am from Plateau State. They constructed lies about my mother-in-law and her family, claiming all that is not true and that they have no proof of. Most definitely, this is just somebody trying to damage these families. I can tell you categorically, I would not swap my wife for anybody in this world, no woman from anywhere can take her place, she means the world to me. The number of calls we have received over this falsehood is unbelievable. People calling to find out what was going on. I tell you now and this is the absolute truth- My wife is my best friend, she’s my queen, she’s my everything, our families are doing great and doing very well together. Anyone thinking otherwise is only wasting his or her time. I am not going to allow anyone disrespect my Mother-in-law wrongfully. I am not going to accept this. They have stepped way out of line this time and I am not going to take it lying low. We would definitely seek legal redress.

AIT’s Ehiedu Aniagwu and The So-called “Child Marriage Bill;” The Man That Misled Nigeria

Ehiedu Aniagwu, AIT chief correspondent at the National Assembly and host of a popular morning programme, Political platform has been figured out to be the journalist who put a spin on the senate proceedings and presented misconstrued and malicious information to the Nigerian public, resulting in the eruption of a week of protests. In the show he presented after the senate failed to delete an aspect inNigeria’s constitution since 1979, joined by Ohiria Agbosoremi, Ehiedu twisted the events of the senate to provoke a sense of the senate passing a new bill in support of child marriage. Which did not happen. The Nigerian Senate has now come out to inform the public that no such bill was passed and no amendment made to the constitution to any such effect. Due process was followed in a routine review of aspects of the constitution and a needed majority to delete a segment thought to have sex disparity, was not achieved, hence the portion (4)(b) of section 29 existent since the 1979 constitution, remained. In his reaction to why he broke up with his wife on Facebook, Mr Oloyede said: “I did so to catch Funke’s attention”! So, how come he had to announce their break up on Facebook to catch his wife’s attention? Could it be that she has not been giving him attention, especially in the bedroom, as his wife? Well, I don’t know how true, but a source told us that Funke Akindele actually parked out of their home about two months ago, leaving her husband in the cold.

I Can’t Date a Man That Doesn’t Have Money – Chidinma

In this part of the world and continent, men take a domineering role in the family. The man is seen as the head of the family. Because of that, most men take responsibility of making provision for the family in every aspect. Back in the days, the role of women in the family was limited to the kitchen and the farms, where they helped their husbands. But things have changed now as some women have assumed the role of men in the family and mostly give support to men in terms of providing for the upkeep of the family. For female celebrities in Nigeria, one challenge they face is getting young men that would marry them as wives, which has made some of them end up marrying men that are married with kids. Most young men tend to stay away from them because they feel female celebs, apart from their reported wayward lives, feel they (female celebs) are richer than them. And because of this, most young chaps stay away from them. Speaking on the type of man she would love to marry, Chidinma Ekile, Nigeria’s female singer and a former winner of MTN Project Fame said she would want a man that could take care of her needs and not the one she would feed. According to her, “never, I can’t date a man that doesn’t have money, I can’t feed a man.” The singer also disclosed that she is not in a hurry to get married but that she is not in a relationship at the moment.

Man Plots And Executes His Bosom Friend’s Kidnapp

Shock and disbelief could best describe the expression on the face of Kingsley Ifeanyi, on discovering that his kidnap, two months ago, was masterminded by his bosom friend, Jimoh Olalere. Ifeanyi’s kidnap sent fears down the spines of his family and friends around Ibeju-Lekki area, as they wondered why anyone could even think of kidnapping a mere bricklayer. The bubble, however, burst Monday, following the arrest of ten suspected kidnappers by the Lagos State Police command, who have been responsible for series of kidnapping at Ibeju- Lekki and its environs. To the amazement of all, one of the suspects, Jimoh Olalere, confessed to have masterminded Ifeanyi’s kidnap out of jealousy. According to Jimoh, the quarrel started between him and his bosom friend following the sale of two plots of land by the latter and his alleged refusal to part with some money. “ I sold two plots of land to Ifeanyi at the rate of N550,000 each. At the end of the deal, he was supposed to pay me some money because he sold the land at a higher rate to the buyer. When I accosted him, he told me to go to hell that he did not get much from the sale. But that has been the custom in my area. This resulted in a heated argument that almost led to a fight. “After that quarrel, we parted ways. I became angry because he went about telling people all sorts of negative things about me. Besides that, I felt he was carrying himself with so much arrogance and I decided to kidnap him to teach him a lesson. I contacted some of my friends who abducted him and took him to a building behind my house where he stayed for two days before he was taken to another hideout. “While in our custody, I visited his parents who told me that some people had put some calls to them demanding for N3 million for Ifeanyi’s release. Pretending to be helping out, I started speaking with the kidnappers at the end of which we bargained for N500,000 for his release. They gave us a deadline for payment, failure of which they threatened to kill Ifeanyi. During one of the telephone conversations, I told the kidnappers that I would like to speak with Ifeanyi, during which he told his mother where to get the sum of N200,000. His parents added the rest and handed a total of N500,000 to me to take to the kidnappers. I took the money to a designated point around Ibeju -Lekki at midnight and handed it over to one of them. The next day, my friend was released and there was jubilation in his family.” New twist After Ifeanyi’s release, Jimoh stated that he went to the kidnapper’s hideout, only to be given the sum of N32,000. “ I was angry and when I demanded to know why I should be given that peanut, they said they were more than ten, whereas , we were nine in number. I got angry and threatened to reject the money but they dared me threatening that even if I exposed them that I would also be implicated. Out of frustration, I left there with the N32,000 that was not even enough for me to meet my family’s immediate need. To be honest, I did not do it for money, I only did it to teach him a lesson because he is very proud.” The father of four later became sober, apparently regretting his action. In an emotion- laden tone, he said, “ Now, I have brought shame to my family, particularly my children. It will be better for me to die and forget about the shame than to live and keep atoning for my sin. I really do not know how to face my friend, his family, my wife and children,“ the 40-year-old Oyo state- born said, shaking his head in regret.

A woman gave birth to a strange looking child on Monday at the General hospital Kagarko, Kagarko local government, after several hours of labour. One of the nurses who attended to the woman said, “The pregnant woman was rushed to the hospital at about 7:30 am, Monday. And we immediately took her into the labour room.” monkey like Kaduna 600×450 Strange world: Woman gives birth to monkey like baby in Kaduna “The woman came in through the out-patient department (OPD) after seeing the doctor on call and I decided to rupture her because the cervix was fully dilated. After I ruptured her, fluid measuring about 26 litres gushed out after which she started bleeding. All this time, the baby was still in the womb.” “When the bleeding persisted, I sent for the medical director and when she came, we went into the theatre to operate on the woman. In the process, the baby started coming out with the legs. So, the medical director asked me to stop and allow her to deliver the baby by herself. Speaking further, the nurse said, “She delivered the baby breech and when it came out, we discovered that it was an abnormal baby. It was half human and half animal. We lost the baby shortly after delivery. The nurse who spoke on condition of anonymity said the baby weighed four kilograms adding that the mother of the baby is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. “She lost a lot of blood so we have to give her blood,” she said.

How Big Girls Are Operating High Class Prostitution In Abuja

Even after the ban by the FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, who gave prostitutes an ultimatum to leave Nigeria's capital or face the wrath of the law, investigation has shown that there are more patronage as it has taken a new guise in the zone 4 area and the Utako-Jabi axis. Below is the revealing report by Anthony Ada Abraham: Young and beautiful, some skinny while others are fleshy, walking in skimpy clothing waving at cars to come access their product. Eyes bright like the morning dew, but red for cash. They are known as sharp girls while others call them ‘mamas.’ They are everywhere in the country especially the FCT. They are no ghosts they are known as ‘Ashawo’ or prostitutes. The so called ban on prostitution has little or no effect as the market has continued to boom with patronage from all angles. The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed who decried the steady rise in the population of prostitutes in Abuja, once noted that they constitute a nuisance as their services add no value to the beauty of the city ordering the FCT Special Task Force to arrest and prosecute them. Also, men who patronise the girls were warned to desist from the act as anyone caught would be treated like the prostitutes. but all those warnings seem to be discarded as they continue to buy the commodity with reckless abandoned. Utako-Eden Garden When you hear the name ‘Eden’, it is ironical to the Biblical meaning which is supposed to house the most precious atmosphere. Though the Eden in question is one of the most beautiful gardens in Abuja where you could get anything you want for relaxation. It is a place where you enjoy life band, suya, shawama, fish, drinks(alcohol and soft). Also games like table tennis, snooker and so on are available for leisure. Upcoming artistes are given the opportunity to showcase their talents on stage and patrons aid them with cash when a performance is worthwhile. The garden which is situated in a splendid location receives patronage from all over. Prostitutes around Eden garden: Last Sunday night, when our reporter was at 3js hotel at a popular comedy show known as Comedy Assembly, he was strolling around the area, trying to experience first-hand activities. Though there are about five hotels located in that axis, the girls love to stay behind the garden with their sexy skimpy skirts. “Catch am catch am!” One of the girls shouted, though at first, it looked like the task force were on hand to sweep them but a bus parked there was an ice cream company bus. When our reporter moved closer to eavesdrop, the following conversation ensued. “Ngozi no let am go, na so these aboki boys go dey touch us for breast, and bottom. Hold am.” One of the boys was seen running while an average height lady wearing a tight gown with stripes was holding a long stick in front of the other guy, an Hausa boy who was over powered by the girls numbering about 15, asking him “ abi na touch you wan touch, you go tire,’ about four cars were parked negotiating with some other girls who were busy shaking their (backside) showing their patrons that their product is still intact. Though attention easily faded away from the boy as what they came out to do is yielding fruit. When asked the situation and why he should have the guts to touch their “privacy,” the confused looking young man who spoke in Hausa, swore they were passing by when they mobbed them, but the “Ngozi” who understands Hausa shouted him down, while our reporter stood watching the drama. After all the confusion, the young man who later said he was Abu, left while they lined up again waiting for customers. At this time, about eight cars came around and picked the girls. These cars were flashy and not the normal little ones. Prostitutes around Zone 4: The situation at Zone 4 has taken another shape as the girls now disguise themselves like ‘Hajiya’, putting on hijab or wearing native clothes waiting for someone to call on them. But it seems their patrons now identify them easily because when they stroll around, you see them as if they are waiting for a cab but all is a diversionary method to confuse any security group from arresting them. At Jabi Masalachi: They are like ‘kobo-kobo,’not the usual ones who live in big houses, drive luxury cars, they are the type you go for ‘sharp sharp’ and whenever you want, you just stroll there and pay for their time. They are very young, older ladies but are not the big type. Reactions: A patron who resides in Lugbe but spoke on anonymity said that since the ban given to the girls, they have increased their charges to between N4,000 and N6,000 per night stating that they now increased their price to between N10,000 to N15,000. While another said “at least it will reduce the patronage because not everyone can afford such amount. The believe is that the agency responsible for bringing this so called business to a halt should channel properly, resources set aside to help offenders for a proper rehabilitation.

How protesting UNIUYO students set VC’s office, hostel ablaze

When Engineering students of University of Uyo (Uniuyo), Akwa Ibom State, staged a peaceful demonstration at the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, to address issues about the sudden changes in their transportation from the campus to their new permanent site, it did not occurred to them that hell was only a few steps away from been set ablaze. It was gathered that the students flared up when the school decided that students who intend boarding the school bus from Campus to the Permanent Site for lectures must pay with N200 daily before using the vehicle that was formerly free. There were also grumblings over the registration fee for General Studies courses generally known as GST, which was increased from just N500 to N2,000. Bogged by these issues, the students led a peaceful demonstration to the V.C’s office to register their grievances. On reaching there, security officials at the Vice Chancellor’s office tried to stop them from gaining access to the office. The confrontation ignited the fire, as enraged students stoned the officials and went further to block Ikot Ekpene Road. The security officials had no option but to call for back-up which worsened the situation. In the violent confrontation, the police were said to have arrived the scene with over 15 Hilux vans. The police reportedly opened fire and threw canisters of teargas at the rebellious crowd, which resulted in the death of three students. One of the victims was Kingsley Udoette a 200 level student of the Department of Zoology. The students also destroyed school property. They set the VC’s office on fire, including the schools main gate and one of the hostels. The rampage went on for hours. Some of the students who spoke to CAMPUS SQUARE said they were not comfortable with some of polices in the school. Jimoh, a 200 level Agricultural Engineering said that the police who were supposed to calm the situation were the people shooting students. “We were not armed but the police came with all sorts of ammunition in a peaceful protest embarked by the students,” Victor Albert, a final year Engineering student said. Esther Moses, a 300 level Chemical Engineering student, lamented the sudden increase in transport fare which he said was done without due consultation with the students. The Chief Security Officer (CSO), Col. Nyong (rted), who was chased out from the campus, admitted that the school brought in a private consultant to handle student transport fare from the town campus to the permanent site but at the rate of N100. Management staff were said to have escaped through various routes ostensibly to avoid being attacked by the protesting students, and all efforts to reach the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ekpo, for her comments did not come to fruition . Meanwhile, the school has been closed indefinitely. Chairman Of All Bishops In Rivers Arrested For Raping A 15-Year Old Girl

Chairman of All Bishops in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze, who was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl, was paraded, yesterday, by the state Police Command. The Bishop, who confessed to the crime before newsmen, said he was hypnotised, adding that he was set up by the pastor of the church where the incident occurred. He denied raping the underage girl, but admitted that she removed her clothes after he finished praying for her in the office and before he could shout ‘the blood of Jesus,’ he was already all over the girl. The Bishop said he was set up by his fellow Bishop, who was also contesting for the post of Chairman of All Bishops in the state with him. Nwabueze, who was paraded at the Rivers State Criminal Investigation department, SCID, Port Harcourt, said anybody could have fallen a victim of what happened to him. He described as untrue, allegation that he made the girl abort a pregnancy from the incident. According to him, it was the girl’s father that did it but he took care of of the bill. He said: “We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. The man who is in-charge of where I went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up. “He invited me to his church for a programme and afer the programme, he set me up because of what we are dragging. We are dragging the chairmanship of the communion and that was why he set me up. But to my greatest surprise, on the said day and after I had prayed for her, the girl started pulling off her clothes and before you knew it, I had carnal knowledge of her.”
